Hypothyroidism in Children



Hypothyroidism is a disease in which the thyroid gland produces insufficient quantity of thyroid hormone. Many Children are affected by hypothyroidism. 

An autoimmune reaction is considered to be the most known reason for Hypothyroidism. This reaction slowly destroys their thyroid gland because of the immune system of our body. 

A disorder named congenital hypothyroidism, by which the infants are being affected at birth. About 1 child in each 2500 to 3000 babies is being affected by this problem. The symptoms in children are quite different. 

In new born babies following symptoms are found; their bone growth is slow, crying hoarsely, yellow skin and eyes etc. 

The autoimmune reaction might be a result of wrong diet.
